Catfish-free dating with Coffee Meets Bagel's Selfie Verification Feature

Catfish-free dating with Coffee Meets Bagel's Selfie Verification Feature

5 MAY, 2026—Coffee Meets Bagel, the dating app for intentional daters, rolled out the Selfie Verification feature in April, marking a significant milestone in the app’s efforts to build a more trusted dating environment.

Within just one month, 70% of active users have completed verification, giving daters on the app peace of mind while addressing issues such as catfishing. Since introducing this feature, CMB has also seen connection rates on the app (defined by contact number exchanges) on an upward trend, as a result of improved trust and quality of interactions.

“Who you are online should match who you are in real life. However, that line has become increasingly blurred in a world of curated profiles and filtered moments. We want to bring authenticity back to dating, and that starts with trust. So, we’ve gone a step further by verifying each of a user’s photos - not just the first photo - to create a more genuine and trustworthy dating experience,” said Rachel Tee, Head of Trust & Safety at Coffee Meets Bagel.

Selfie verification allows users to verify their profiles by submitting a short video selfie, which is then matched against each of their profile photos to ensure authenticity.

Verification is typically completed within 24 hours, giving users greater confidence that the profiles they interact with genuinely reflect the person behind them. Selfie verification is available to all daters globally.

As more users seek authentic and meaningful connections, CMB continues to invest in features that improve quality matches, addressing growing dating app fatigue.
